well I need to update my pc and as I haven't build 1 in 7-8 years I thought I would get some assistance

    CPU
    Ryzen 7 eight core 1700 3.70GHz (socket AM4)
    probably change for:
    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-r...cp-39v-am.html
    if I can justify:
    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-r...cp-3a7-am.html

    heatsink
Cooler Master MasterAir Maker * CPU Cooler
    probably change for:
    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/noctu...hs-039-nc.html

    Motherboard
    GA-AB350-Gaming 3 AMD B350 (socket AM4) DDR4 ATX

i wouldn't touch the Radeon RX 580 with a barge pole.
the 1060 is much cheaper (and from what i've seen, actually better). a 1070, 1080 or vega 56 would be a better idea if you didnt want to jump right to the top end

possibly switch the 1700 for 1700x

do some research about the 960 pro to make sure the motherboard supports booting from nvme drives.

The 5400 rpm drives are good for "im going to dump this here and never use it", but if you want to actually use data on a larger drive, get a 7200 rpm one.

make sure heatsink comes with correct AM4 bracket. if you buy a noctua heatsink i think they'll send you one for free (look it up first)

not looked at the PSU price difference but if its negligable get the more efficient one

    Ram
    Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-33000C19 4133MHz Dual Channel Kit (F4-4133C19D-16GTZR)

looks pretty good. you could still go with the 1700

all depends on what you want to spend - the money on the 1700x or 1800x or the time playing around overclocking a 1700

i'm looking at getting helen the new acer nitro spin 5 (released in october) about the 1k cost 10 hour battery and a 1050 graphics card so seems like a good middle of the road machine for a laptop. (not fully decided but its a good possibility)
